Elephant Pepper Camp (originally Mara Bush Camp) offers a unique,
comfortable environment and is aptly named after the Warburgia
Ugandensis tree, which is commonly known as the Elephant Pepper
tree.
The true bush experience of walking and unwinding around the glowing
embers of a campfire all add to the authenticity of a true bush
experience. Creative comforts are not sacrificed either with ensuite
bathrooms being part of each spacious tent.
Looking from the camp across the plains one can see the ‘greatest
game show on earth’ when the annual wildebeest migration thunders
past to seek new grazing in the lush savannahs of the Maasai Mara.
Activities available here include game drives in 4-wheel drive
vehicles, night game drives and guided bush walks. Regular sightings
include Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Elephant, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated
Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Grant’s Gazelle, Leopard, Lion, Cheetah,
Rhino and the rare, elusive Greater Kudu. Meru is also famous for
its bird life. Day excursions can be taken to the Tana River and
visits to the local Theraka village can be arranged.
Soft drinks, beer, house wines and non-luxury spirits are included.
There is a limited laundry service.
Highlights
-Stunning and secluded setting in Meru National Park.
-Individually designed and well appointed cottages, with en-suite
bathrooms.
-Game drives and bush walks led by knowledgeable guides.
-Infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains.
Samburu Intrepids Camp:
Samburu Intrepids Camp is a luxury-tented camp in the midst of the
rugged and savagely beautiful semi arid desert of northern Kenya.
Located in the Samburu National Reserve on the banks of the Uaaso
Nyiro River, the camp offers unique game viewing in its immediate
surroundings. Located 345 kilometers north of Nairobi, the journey
to the camp involves a 50-minute flight to the Samburu airstrip
followed by a 20-minute drive through the reserve.
The Camp:
-The luxurious tented camp offers 27 modern tents with a private view
over the wildlife-rich riverbanks. The tent has soft four-poster
beds, mahogany closets and desks, and en suite bathrooms with
steaming hot showers. The bathrooms also offer twin washbasins,
flush toilets, and sockets for shavers and battery charging.
-The tented camp roofing is all palm-thatched, and is raised on stilts
to catch the cooling breeze blowing off the river.
-The main dining room has a seating capacity of 60, and opens onto an
outdoor dining terrace, where buffet breakfasts and lunches are
served overlooking the river. (Meals can also be enjoyed on your
private verandah or at one of a series of specially selected 'bush
sites' close to the camp.)
-There is a lounge and bar area where resident naturalists deliver
fascinating slide shows most evenings, and an intimate conference
room with a television for viewing wildlife documentaries. Behind
the bar, surrounded by shady sunbathing areas, is the freeform
swimming pool.
-There is seasonal river rafting and the nature bird walks provide a
fascinating past time.
-Buffet luncheons and candlelight dinners are served on an elevated
deck amidst the high shade trees.
-Camel and walking safaris outside the reserve are available
